Lytro Camera (focus after the fact) is Available for Pre-Order

This was discussed here:

https://www.lytro.com/camera

They look like flashlights. The lowest priced one is $399. (I was not far off on my guess of the eventual price of the first model. I guessed it would be around $300.)

The design concept appears similar to the Flip Video Camera, which I own, but I only paid $99 for it. There is only a lens, a shutter release and a USB port for downloading images.

I still think the sample images on the web site appear to be about 2 MB resolution, not 5 MB claimed. Nothing in the images looks that sharp.

I expect the price to drop dramatically after not a lot of time. (Woot.com, here it comes...)

I want to see a second generation with improved resolution. The images are fascinating to play with but are not really that good yet.

I compared the Lytro in my previous posting a few months ago to the SX-70 and in this last posting to the Flipcam. CNet's journalist makes exactly the same comparisons. The Flipcam comparison is pretty obvious, but the SX-70 comparison surprises me because so few people remember 39 year old stuff (the first SX-70 came out in the fall of '72, I believe.)
