Lost XP COA - help

I went to install XP pro last night and can't find my COA (certificate of authenticity). I did activate/register when I originally installed the OS. Will Microsoft give you the install code or are they gonna stick me for another license?

Of course you don't need another license.  If you completely wiped your drive (as opposed to "repairing" the OS with a partial re-install) you might have to call customer support to get the code to type in - - assuming it's asking you for that code.  

If your hardware configuration has drastically changed - - they will "transfer" the license from your old configuration to the new.

Mine is an OEM license. Doesn't that mean I'll have to pay to call or get any type support?

Well, if it's an OEM license, like it came with a Dell computer, then usually you're supposed to call the OEM first.  That's part of the deal with OEM licenses.  My brother just got a Dell and they literally put a sticker on the outside of the box with the license code on it. Have you tried your OEM?

No, I don't remember who the OEM was. It came from some no-name company that I don't remember. I fear I'm screwed.

call M$. they gave me a new one for $10 a few years ago.  I had to read off of the CD to prove its authenticity.
