Technical Trainer, willing to travel
« on: April 01, 2008, 11:56:43 pm »
I have been a Technical Trainer for 20 years, specializing in end-user software. Over the last ten years that corporate university and training company market has dried up as Microsoft Office has become pervasive, even in schools. So today I do contract work teaching custom-written in-house software.

Have been traveling the last five years, full-time on this IBM contract, and now looking to stay in one place.

What region of the country are you currently in and what regions are you open to going into?  I'm guessing that rural Mississippi isn't your first choice unless someone throws a lot of money your way, so I'm asking from a practical standpoint where you're open to going?

The IBM contract is now over, and am looking for new opportunities.

As above, nearly 20 years as a Computer Trainer working in various fields. Open to relocation for the right position.

Do you specialize in any areas? I was thinking there are places you might look into doing subcontact training. The one that comes to mind would be www.aspetech.com. I recently got training there and it was really good.

I did this locally for a while

It wasn't enough work to live on, but it kept the wolf away from the door.

There were several small shops that specialized in things like MS Word and Excel and the courses ran 2 to 5 days, and then there were the continuing ed programs at the local high school, maybe 5 three-hour evening sessions, one a week.

What I'm thinking is that you could research these firms locally, and maybe find enough work to live on.
