Dollar to fail by 2012 and gold to spike to 2000

As the Fed under Helicopter Ben prints money like their is no tomorrow, the dollar may fall to ZERO! Commodities such as gold and silver may be best hedge against hyper inflation. Just a thought. -jedi

Pardon my naivete, but with the USD at zero, how does one provide for their everyday, small purchases? Trading in gold will be cumbersome, and fraught with attempts to pass counterfeit coins and bullion. So here I sit in my little house with a bunch of Krugerands, and I want to buy a pair of shoes. Just how does that work?

Seems like hoarding high-demand, long shelf-life everyday goods would be a better way to go. Then one would be in a strong bartering position.

Silver is money. Joe Six Pack on the street has always used silver. Gold is for banks and for very rare large transactions. The US has never been on a "gold standard", rather a silver standard, with the dollar defined as 371.25 grains of silver.

I predict Argentum should do better in this bull market than Aurum...

Both are pretty good choices.  Platinum is another good one, but less common and I fear Joe Six Pack may not recognize it.

Joe Six Pack is more likely to be trading Budweiser or similar commodity, probably in units easily divisible by 6 - as in a case or 12-pack.
