Outlook fonts
« on: August 17, 2011, 11:54:29 am »

Could they possibly make it any more difficult to change fonts in 2007 Outlook?
Spent a long time figuring it out, it's all over.

Tools/Options/Mail Format/Stationary and Fonts -- you got to be kidding me. And that's not all of it. An even better hidden one is here:

View / Current View / Customize Current View / Fonts

C'mon.  Whoever designed this, had no idea about User Interface. It's completely counter-intuitive, hard to remember and difficult to access. I had to access help to do it in about 3 different places.

Kind of like taking out the engine to put gas in the car.

And even then it's not complete, as you have no control over incoming messages. They appear in tiny font and that's it. You can open an individual message and zoom it but the next one is back to tiny.  What is the fascination with tiny things?

Smaller fonts use less disk space  ;D

But seriously, I had a client that mandated tiny fonts. His logic as that everyone prints their email and smaller fonts would use less paper.  He also mandated duplex printing, despite tons of data that showed that duplexing takes 3 times as long to print, and results in 3 times as many service calls to fix broken printers.

So that's where all my disk space is going? It's those large fonts!

As for Outlook, I wish I could change the fonts on the 'Outlook Today' page. Once the event happens on the calendar, it's nearly impossible to read. A different font, color, size, something to change but it's set in stone.

I like Outlook but I'm growing tired of what I can't do with it. Yet at the same time I haven't found a suitable replacement.

You need at least a 24" monitor to work well with Outlook, if you have it configured for large fonts.  Having used 24" for a few years, I am beginning to think that 27" would be even better.

I really don't know the specific issue you're dealing with.  But I feel your pain.

What drives me crazy is how they can get this kind of thing wrong,  when they got it right several versions ago!  Do they really think they are improving things?  Or do they have no cultural memory?
