Firefox and yahoo font problem
« on: July 31, 2011, 05:23:40 am »
Accessing yahoo mail via firefox, I get the Inbox fonts messed up. The bottom 1/3 of the line is cut off.  The actual message is fine.   Attempting to modify fonts does not address it.
It does not happen with IE.
I have the latest version of everything.

Looks OK to me.  I'm running FF 5.0 and recently was "upgraded" to a new Yahoo mail format.

Unix, clear your cache and refresh the page.

Also, Firefox allows the user to set their font size on the fly. Hold down the control key and tap the down arrow key to reduce the font size of the page.

I think you mean Ctrl - (Ctrl + increases the font size. Ctrl 0 returns to normal)

Clearing the cashe and refreshing the page did not do it.
I am aware of the control-+ / - trick, it doesn't change the problem, just makes the font huge or big and magnifies the issue in the latter case.   Driving me nuts as about 1/3 of the line is not displayed and it's causing readability issues.   So much that I had to dump Firefox for Internet Explorer as a short-term solution.

That did not work either.

IE looks so much better - and displays correctly. I have never had issues with Firefox aside from yahoo.  It seems to display everything else correctly.

I checked my Yahoo mail. It displays fine. I am using the "new nail interface" choice.

I solved it. The problem was, I set a minimum font size in Mozilla. That's what caused it. I reset to no min size and it fixed it.

As developers say, it's not a bug, it's a feature.

So you did it to yourself but that's an interesting 'feature'.

This is almost as bad as someone going into 'about:config' and then wanting you to 'fix' their problem. Of course, not telling you what they did.

The first thing I do to a new browser is set the fonts, the default drive me nuts.  It was an interesting experience with these side effects.
