Excel doesn't like HSA
« on: October 27, 2003, 06:32:27 pm »
Ok, I admit that I'm not a spreadsheet maven. I've never had much use for them, but today I'm trying to do something real simple in Excel. (part of Office/XP, runing in Windows 2000 Pro)

I have a cell into which I wish to put the text "HSA".   But after I type it, it morphs into "HAS".   Other cells containing plain text are left unscathed.

The cell in question isn't referenced by any formulae.

Any ideas?

You have "Autocorrect" turned on.  Go to the "Tools" menu and then the "Autocorrect" sub menu.  Uncheck the "Replace text as you type" selection.   If you look in the list, you will find that "hsa" is to be replaced by "has".  You could also modify this entry instead of unchecking the option.

Another option you might try is to prefix the text with an apostrophe ' which in prior editions of Excel denoted that the following text should be displayed 'as is'.
