Virginia country and the DC area
« on: December 30, 2017, 10:20:45 PM »
So I drove about 1.5 hours away from DC and a what a change in scenery. I hadn't realized I've become a DC person or more precisely, a NoVA resident. You drive about 60 miles from the area and it's a completely different social contingent you engage. Pickups trucks, rude behavior, just a few notches lower on the politeness scale.

It's not that I mind confederate bumper stickers or shotguns on the gun racks.  I don't.  But there is something about their lack of sophistication.

DC area is such a bubble.  Such an unreal bubble.  And when you rejoin the reality that surrounds it, it's a shock.

DC is like Rome during the the time of the Caesars. All the money flowed to Rome. In this case it flows to DC. Its a den of pit vipers, maybe worse than NYC. Northern VA is now one of the richest areas in the country.

Almost everyone here is connected to the fed gov in some way.

Either working for the fedgov directly or a few layers removed from it. Or cooking food for the gov subcontractors and stuff.

The last time I was in DC I was surprised at all the office buildings with giant corporate names on the outside - ie. IBM, Oracle, etc.... I mean really giant names on the top of the building so everyone can see it for miles.

The place really is a trough for the pigs. Everyone wonders why the deficit is out of control.
