Reclaiming my home office and daily routine
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:37:18 pm »
I've been saying for a month or more I was going to do this, and finally did today.  I used to have very set routines with my business, keeping regular business hours, working in my separate office space upstairs, etc.  In the past few years that deteriorated to working downstairs with the hours getting quite erratic.  Some of this was a function of the aftermath of hurricanes and extended visits from relatives.  Some of this has to do with my husband's health... if he's having a series of bad days, I need to stick close.

My younger brother and his partner  ::) were here from up north for a few days last week.  They got the guest bath and the big guest room cleaner than they have been in a decade, but ran out of time to help me rearrange the little bedroom for my office again.  This is really just as well.  I have definite opinions about what layout works best for me.  I told Hubby this morning that I really needed to get back on a regular work schedule again so I can make more money (this argument always works ;)  ).  He said "get to it."

So here I sit, on my lunch break, having moved furniture, cleaned, etc AND did paid work for over an hour to boot.  I'm pretty sure I'll be sore by tonight, but it's worth it to have a "real" work space again.

So how 'bout ya'll?  Anyone else fallen into bad work habits?  If so, what steps have you taken to correct them?

Regards,
-DG

One of the worst habits is to let go of taking time for me (exercise and wood carving) because of the demands of the work. That sets me up for too much stress and my body rebels. I get more done when I schedule in time for me.

I agree.  I have difficulty taking breaks when I'm "on a roll."  Unfortunately, it's the same way when I'm doing my current favorite hobby (genealogy research).  If it weren't for taking care of Hubby and critters, I would spend all day and night on the computer.  :-\
