Excellent article. Thanks for the link.

It probably dates me, but I simply cannot read anything over about three pages on a computer. Larger than that, I must print it.

I've long lusted after a Kindle, and feel that Amazon has an excellent product, but I still prefer the look/feel of actual printed material in most cases.

I don't think that the comparison equating  book publishing to music CDs holds up very well, as authors typically receive a far better piece of the sales dollars than musicians. Hence, authors don't need to rely on touring and tee shirt sales to survive.

If you go to the NY Times web site, in the Technology section, David Pogue reviews the new Kindle 3.  (I'd post a link but it requires registration).

Basically he likes it a lot, especially at $140.

David Pogue may like it at $140, but I haven't got $140 to shell out. So I continue to lust for a Kindle.

According to author James MacDonald:

Acquisition and production, printing and distribution, overhead like office rent and telephones (G&A), and the variable costs of promotion and marketing.
