You know exactly what I'm talking about, if you have been to any outdoor Christmas lights shows this year or even had the radio on during this season.

The hard rock transmogrified Christmas tunes that are overlaid on each other, performed by Trans-Mannhein Metallica Steamroller Siberian Exiles.

(Ok, the one tune I am REALLY sick of is called something like Christmas in Sarejevo by Trans Siberian Orchestra and it is a staple in all lights shows and Christmas displays.)

The first time I heard this stuff maybe five or 10 years ago I thought it was pretty neat.

It's a great recording. It's also completely overexposed.

Today it's coming off like being locked in a room having to listen repetitively to "I wanna hold your hand" performed by chipmunks.

Predicted Christmas tune fad for 2012: Gregorian chants with no instrumentals.

 :P

My sister, who is an elementary school teacher, claims that Hell is a place when you have to listen to children sing "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" an average of 12 times a day from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

Yeah, that would be worse.

What I object to is something cool being turned into the utter commonplace.

I am reminded of the day in the (Christian College) dorm, where a guy down the hall had gotten stoned, put on the 45 of Bennie and the Jets, and pulled the player arm to the side. (Yes, I am dating myself.) After about 45 minutes of the same thing blasting through the halls, we were about ready to break down the door to his room to stop the music. I still don't like the song.

I have the seasonal problem of songs that get stuck in my head... usually it's Elvis' "Blue Christmas" - ooo-ooo-uh-ooo-ooo.

The worst thing I ever heard was, while eating in a BK years ago, the muzak version of Dvorak's New World Symphony with a disco beat.   :o

Have sympathy for the folks working retail who have to listen to this crap all the time.

Happy Ho Ho,

I remember a movie where the torture was having to listen to "They're coming to take me away"  over and over again.

I've found the best way to get rid of a tune getting played over and over in your head is to replace it with something else that is more pleasant.  This other song will eventually go away leaving nothing.   I currently use California Girls by the Beach Boys.
