CIO Magazine is 1/16" thick this month
« on: April 04, 2008, 01:29:32 pm »
My copy of CIO Magazine that came in the mail this morning is  only little over 1/16th of an inch thick...a shadow of it's former self. It's just 56 pages total (25 sheets).

I remember when it used to be a half inch or 5/8ths thick.

Not a good sign, but a leading indicator...

A lot of advertising dollars are moving from TV/print (where
major layoffs have been occuring) to the internet.  I noticed
that CBS owned TV stations fired a bunch of people in
Chicago, San Fransico and across the USA this week.

Forbes - I have subscribed to it since 1970.  Back then it was saddle-stapled, now it's glued, I don't know the term.

The current issue is 120 pages, and I have seen issues with 250 pages.  It's about the ad volume.  Pre-internet, this was a reliable economic indicator.  These days, it could be an omen about the future of print journalism and advertising.

As I said elsewhere on this forum, CIO has become a content-free publication. The advertisers have likely either abandoned the print magazine, or maybe shifted some of their ad dollars to the CIO website.

I've had a few dealings with them as a writer, and found their editorial staff to be incredibly arrogant. So I guess I'm not heartbroken.

I get the rag. I originally got it to get inside the heads of upper management. Its like a manual on the enemy. Whatever are the current buzzwords thats what you focus on.

Personally I find Baseline much more useful as at least its quasi-geek like.
