So the question seems to be: will they stick to their "principles" and again shit all over the current DBA in a petty and stupid display of power that results in actual damage to their business, or will they be adults about it?

Let us know...

True  - I keep thinking they are cash poor but they just keep hiring people so its an effort to control cost not stay alive and yes a petty display of power.

Smartest thing he has done is be flexible, if they wanted 9-5 sharp every day I would be gone but this has worked well. For example I dropped off my daughter at school then headed downtown yesterday after a hectic pace of meetings and fixes with other players before leaving early to pickup and take my daughter to a better school 5 blocks from our home and enrolled her there. Never seen her so happy and optimistic.  I will wrap that up today and be down for my meeting to learn what they plan to do.  That flexibility after already working from home all summer is big.

They're probably thinking "We're being INCREDIBLY generous to offer that bottom dwelling DBA by giving him flexible hours, and who in the f*ck does he think he is to challenge US? or to ask for one more thing?", or something like it.

The problem is, you never know what is being said about you in an employment situation.

Contracting is so much cleaner: I have the skills. You have the cash. Let's party. No HR policy to appease the perm smurfs you wind up working around.

Employment is too much all about who has the power, which always seems to trump the work getting done.

The Gorn,

Well I did get pickup on some hearsay after standing my ground on next to no sleep when all the voices were calling for panicky measures, rebooting the remaining node seeing the storage would have cutoff every paying customer for days, maybe a full week.

Knowing what we know about my health last summer it is reassuring to get this in my inbox:

"Just a quick note to say that I’m very impressed with your great work and clear head under chronic, extreme pressure."  Key now is to stay healthy and not get cocky.  How do they frame it in the NFL ? Your never as bad as your worst loss and your never as good as your best win.  Close enough to 'do NOT let it go to your head'.

So after enrolling my daughter today and making her dream come true ( her optimism is soaring ) I met with VP and he was ready to make me happy anyway he could.  I said my 1099 bennies are still active but CFO stressed he needs W-2.  So he asked about W-2 with hourly overtime for next 3-4 months to get over this big upgrade then we will have 2 other guys and I got to normal hours - less pager.  He corrected my salary and said he would tell the board they are boosting my shares by 50k.

I think playing ball is the way to go here. Pigs get fatter while hogs get slaughtered.  I may follow this guy to his next gold mine.  The BO 1099 guy was all over me Monday in my cube, apparently he was asked to convert weeks ago so this new CFO is trying to closeout 1099, I can go along and be reasonable.  Back to work for me.  If I do not like it in 6 months I will bail with vastly more skills, this has been a skill builder unlike many staff DBA slots I have seen where it is hard to standout and differentiate yourself because they are in steady as she goes mode and the other DBA's have been there forever.
